普段一つくくりするだけでも大変なリディア。なんと編みこみをやってのけてくれました。写真では見えませんがキラキラスプレーもかかってます。It's hard to do anything with Lydia because she moves too much. But thanks to all the distraction, her hair got braided today :) You can't see it but there's a sparkling spray on her hair too! エマはリトルマーメイドを見ながら２度目のヘアカット。Emma's 2nd haircut while watching "Little Mermaid." She got scared so she probably watched it for the first 5 minutes... シャンプー台の前には椅子ではなくてベッド。寝ながら髪の毛を洗ってもらうのね。サロン全体がめっちゃ子供向けで楽しい！リディアが持っているのはトリートメント。There is a bed next to the shampoo stand! That must be relaxing. The whole salon is decorated to entertain children. Lydia got into treatment.
エマの好きなドレスに合わせてクルクル巻いてもらっちゃった。仕上げはもちろんキラキラスプレー。Angela curled Emma's hair to match her favorite dress. The finish is of course the sparking spray!
ヘアカットのあとは宝石箱からお土産を選ぶの。赤いストローと紫のストローを選んで「エマとリディアの分！」　出口でキャンディーも選ばせてくれる。Pick your treasure to take home! Emma picked 2 straws for herself and Lydia (she makes the decision!). At the exit, she picked candies too!

最後にリディアの髪の毛を使ってこんなにかわいいカードを作ってくれました。残りの髪の毛も小さな封筒に入ってます。とても行き届いたサービス。Angela made this cute card using Lydia's hair. The rest of her hair is in the small envelope. What a service!

Pioneer Picnic 開拓者の日ピクニック

なんと 近所のおじいちゃんが作ってくれたパン。すんごくふかふかしてお店で買うパンよりおいしい。お水の代わりにバターミルクを使うとおいしくなるそうです。ピクニックにはポテトサラダも作って持ってきてくれました。Homemade by Brother Nelson. It was so soft and yummy! The key is to use buttermilk instead of hot water. He also made yummy potato salad and brought them to the picnic.

私の友達の姪、スターラ。かわいい格好と同時にかわいい名前だと思わない？My friend's niece, Starla. What a cute girl with a cute name!

スターラのおばあちゃんといとこのハンナ。後ろに少し見えてるのがハンナのママ。Starla's grandma and her cousin, Hanna. It's hard to see, but the back is Hanna's mom and my sweet friend, Maleah.
開拓者も遊んだ袋レース。Sack race!
勝ち負けにかかわらず参加した子供にはごほうび。It doesn't matter if you were the first or the last. Everybody gets rewards.
２人３脚。 勝ち負けは関係ないので大人も子供も一緒。2 peole with 3 legs. Winning doesn't matter, so adults and kids race together. The front is my photographer's husband, Jon Snider.
私も参加したので分かりにくい写真しか取れませんでしたが これがほんとの卵投げ（ナイルバレーでもこうしてやってたんでしょうが、きっと私が見逃したんでしょう）。２列に並んでパートナーに卵を投げます。割れなかったら二人とも一歩ずつ下がって割れるまで投げます（笑）生卵なのに地面で跳ねても割れない丈夫な卵も。スターラのおばあちゃんの鶏、健康すぎ＾＾ラッキーな卵に当たった子供たちは5メートルくらい離れてもボーリングみたいにして投げてました（笑） This is the real egg toss (I most likely missed it at Nile Valley). I participated so couldn't take a better photo. We lined up in 2 lines and tossed raw eggs to partners. If the eggs didn't break, they stepped back one step at a time and tossed them until the eggs broke. Starla's grandmother's eggs were so healthy that some of them could be bounced on the grass for 15 feet without breaking!!

エマとリディアは持ち寄りのご飯をたくさん食べたあと裸足でリラックス。というかいつどこに行っても靴を脱ぎ捨ててくるので２人と靴のあとを追うので結構大変＾＾ Relaxing after a nice big meal. They take off shoes everywhere, so I have to keep track of them and their shoes...
スイカ大好きっ子。何個食べたら気が済むことやら・・・。Emma loves watermelon! She had so many.
リンリンが行きまーす。Lydia's turn!

シュ～！実はこのあとまたこうして降りてくると思ってたら、うえでオムツをはずしたらしくウネウネの滑り台をうつぶせでおしり丸出しで降りてきました。キャー！！ Slide! I expected her to come down like this again after this, but she took off her diaper on the top and came down another winding slide mooning everybody!!

パパはパパ同士で集まってフットボール。赤いシャツがジェイコブ、青いシャツがクリス。Daddy's playing football with his friends. The red shirt is Jacob and the blue shirt is Chris. That's as far as I can tell^^

Daddy, Come back by now!! パパ早く帰ってきて～！：D

Sometimes Daddy leaves for work before Emma wakes up in the morning, so she asks me, "Where is Daddy?" I plainly tell her, "Daddy went to work," in Japanese. One day, she asked the same question again, so I told her, "You know where he is." And Emma replied, "Yup, he went potty!" What!? Then I realized the words "work" and "pee" sounded similar in Japanese. Work is oshigoto and pee is oshikko. Emma thought all this time Daddy was at potty for 9-10 hours everyday... No wonder why she was fussing, "I want Daddy back..."
時々パパはエマが起きる前にお仕事に行くのでエマは「パパはどこに行ったの？」と聞いてきます。いつも「パパはお仕事に行ったのよ」と答えるのですが、ある日「パパはどこ？」と聞かれたとき「どこに行ったかもう知ってるでしょう？」と聞き返すと「知ってるよ、おしっこ（Potty）に行ったんでしょ？」と返ってきました。ハ！？で、少しして気づいたのがそういえば「お仕事」と「おしっこ」って早く言ったら似てる・・・。これまでずっとパパは毎日９－１０時間もおしっこに行ってると思ってたの？でも、どうりで「早く帰ってきて」って言ってたのね・・・。とんでもない聞き間違いでした（笑）

鈎針で何か作れるようになった！I finally made something!

手のひらサイズの食器洗い用スポンジを適当に考えて作ってみました。アクリルなので洗剤をつけなくてもきれいになるそうですが、やっぱり極少量つけてしまう（笑）
I made up this palm-size sponge for dishwashing. It's made of acrylic fiber. It is proved to clean without soap as well as with soap, but I still use a tiny amount by habit... :)

７０cm四方もあるすごく柔らかいベビー毛布。鈎針で何かきちんと仕上げたのは初めて＾＾（去年の一回目は挫折・・・）４日かかったよん。一時的に中指の横に針を持ち続けた跡がついて痛かったけど仕上がったときはやっぱり嬉しかったねぇ・・・。友達にいつか女の子が生まれたらお祝いにあげようと思って作ったんだけど、エマに「私のベビー人形にちょうだーい」とねだられてます（笑）もう一枚作るか・・・（迷）　　私のお父さんのお母さん（私のおばあちゃん）は編み物縫い物の達人でした。３世代違うだけでこんなに変わるかというくらい私はこういうものに携わったことがなかったので最近時間を見つけてやってみました。図書館で何度も編み物の本を借りてみたけどドレスにトライするのはいつになることやら・・・。いつも見るだけ見て返してる（T＿T）
26 inch square s-o-f-t baby blanket. First time to finish anything with a crochet (I gave up my first time last year...) It took me 4 days. It temporarily left a crochet mark on my middle finger, but it was worth finishing; I was exhilarated! I made this for the next baby shower, but Emma has been begging me to give this to her baby doll :) I may have to make another one... My dad's mother (my grandmother) was an expert at sewing, knitting and crocheting. Within 3 generations, I shouln't be such an amateur but I always feel overwhelmed when I borrow books from a library. I only read how to crochet dresses and return the books with a sigh...

Hippo's Sign かばのサイン

９時にやっと静かに寝たはずのエマが１０時にベッドルームから「ママ、ママーー！できたよー！」と叫ぶので何事かと思ってドアを開けたら「ママ、かばのサイン（手話）！」３歳には結構難しいこのかばのサイン、５日目にやっとできてかなり嬉しかったらしい（笑）
After being quiet for an hour in her bedroom, we heard Emma's shout, "Mama, Mama, I did it!" at 10 pm. Jacob and I looked at each other, expecting something bad, opened her door. "Look! Hippopotamus!" It took her 5 days to master this hippo. We were all excited :D

Click on the link above. My long-term beloved friend, Carrie, took our family photo yesterday. She has worked for magazines and newsletters as an editor and photographer for years and years. She is so good at taking pictures that she can even make us look better ;) She humbly says, "The secret is... take 200 pictures to get 5 good ones ;)" but she is good!

Jacob was invited to shoot bow and arrow with Laura's husband, Jesse, today. I wanted to try it too, but I guess it was a hard one, so Jacob said I wouldn't be able to pull... :( Anyway, when he came home, he brought this CUTEST thing from Laura. She made this especially for me, using a cricut machine. Isn't she talented? I can't believe she made one for me. I am so touched... (T_T)
今朝ローラの旦那さん、ジェシーから電話で「弓矢を討たないか」とのお誘いがありジェイコブが遊びに行ってきました。私もトライしたかったんだけど、硬い弓なので引けないんじゃないか、と・・・。でも帰ってきたときにはお土産がありました。なんとローラが上のフレームを私のために作ってくれたそうです。切り抜きの機械で作れるらしいですが、めっちゃかわいい～！！（感動・・・T_T）

I won't starve in Japan! 日本に行っても一人で食べれるよ

この２月に日本から帰ってきたばかりのときのビデオ。１４ヶ月でーす。この一年間、お箸で食べるのはママだけかと思ってたらおじいちゃんもおばあちゃんもユキさんもレナちゃんもお箸で食べてたの。このママののりたまご飯おいしそうだからちょっとちょうだいね！

This was filmed when we just got back from Japan in February. I was 14 months old then. For the whole past year, I used to think Mama was the only person who used chopsticks but Grandpa, Grandma, Aunt Yuki, and Rena did too! Please let me have some of your seasoned rice, Mama!

Pet me! 愛犬モリー

My name is Molly! I'm a cute chihuahua mix. I'm only 2 1/2 but very quiet and love taking a bath. Most dogs don't like bows but I was jealous of Emma and Lydia wearing theirs. Now I have one too! Yippee!
チワワのモリーでーす！わたしまだ２歳半だけどとってもおとなしくてお風呂が大好きなの。ほかの犬はリボンとか嫌いみたいだけど、私はエマちゃんとリディアちゃんを見てるから、うらやましいなと思ってたのよね。今日は私も仲間入り。キャハ！

よく一緒に集まる友達でーす Friends who get together often

Far right is today's main and my old roommate, Carrie. She will have a baby boy next month. She is also a writer and photographer. From her next, Emily, Ashley, Alicia, and Lindsey. Alicia has come to Japan with me. Everybody is married and close in age, so we have tons to talk about!
右が今日のパーティのメイン兼私の結婚前のルームメイト、キャリー。来月２人目を出産予定。新聞カメラ記者です。その横から、エミリー、アシュリー、アリシア、リンズィー。アリシアは私の日本の実家に来たことも。みんな結婚してて年が近いので話すことがいっぱい！The middle is Lindsey and Alicia's friend, Roxy. I went home at 9pm but she stayed until midnight. I don't have that much energy to do that anymore!

真ん中はリンジーとアリシアの友達だけど みんなは初対面のロキシー。（酔っ払ってません＾＾）私は９時で二番目に帰ったけど、ロキシーは１２時まで話し込んだそうです。最近そんなことしたことないな～。（する気力もないけど・・・）

Jacob's Gun Club ジェイコブのガンクラブ

ジェイコブのガンクラブ友達、アシュリーの旦那クリス。うちの裏庭で撃てる（周りに何にもないので・・）のでだいたい２－３ヶ月に一回練習しに来ます。日本にいるときは銃反対だったけど、銃規制をすると悪い人だけが銃を持ってていい人が自分を守れなくなるんだよ、ということで説得されてしまいました。なのでいい人が銃の練習をしておくことはいいことなんだそうです。
Ashely's husband, Chris, is Jacob's gun club friend :) There are nothing around our house, so people come to our house to shoot in our backyard. I used to be against guns out of fear in Japan, but now I'm in the U.S. and understood that it is good for good people to have guns for protection and practice shooting often.

ガンクラブ探検隊＾＾ Gun club explorers :) クリスはプラントドクターでもあります。うちの園芸を見てくれてるの。トマト、とうもろこし、夕張メロン、かぼちゃ、マリゴールド、インカが植えてあります。 Chris is also a plant doctor. He is checking out our garden. There are corns, tomatoes, cantalopes, pumpkins, marigolds, and inca.

蛾がりんごの中に卵を産み付けるそうです。知らなかった～。クリスがくれた蛾トラップ。 I didnt' know that moths were creating those brown spots and laying eggs inside. Chris gave us moth traps.

Nile Valley Days with Laura, Jesse and Baylor ナイルバレーデー

My sister-in-law, Laura, and I went to the Nile Valley Days, about 30 miles west of Yakima yesterday. They advertised watermelon eating contest, egg toss, pony rides, amateur wood events, archery, and black powder gun demonstration. Jacob wanted to go too, but he had to work :( It was hot but a nice day. Laura and I had great fun driving and seeing a smalle town festival. 昨日３人目の義姉（といっても年下）のローラとヤキマからほぼ５０ｋｍ西にあるナイルというとても小さな町のイベントに来ました。スイカ食い競争、卵投げ、ポニー乗馬、木工、アーチェリー、黒色火薬銃があると聞いて遊ぶ気満々で来ました！ジェイコブも来たかったけど、休みが取れず。。。暑かったけどとても晴れたいい日でした。
I forgot a battery in my camera and Laura forgot her memory card but my memory card fit into Laura's camera. With our 2 brains, we didn't miss our great shots :D And Laura's camera was REALLY nice (o.o)
実はカメラのバッテリーを忘れて、「エー、めちゃ残念」と思ってたら、ローラが「私カメラあるよ」と。「やったー」と思ったらローラも「メモリーカード忘れた～」　もう、二人ともぬけてる・・・。しかし、私のメモリーカードがローラのカメラに運良くあって、忘れっぽくても２人集まれば何とかなったー！（笑）ローラのカメラはめちゃめちゃいいカメラでした。

Almost 9-month-old baby, Baylor. He was so good throughout the trip. Isn't he adorable??? ９ヶ月の男の子、ベイラー。１日とってもいい子でした。かわいいでしょ？

I was so ready to hit somebody with eggs and also get dirty, but this is the egg toss they had. The eggs were not even real; they were ping-pong balls... >.< 卵投げ、めっちゃ期待して汚れる準備万端だったのにピンポン玉って・・・・（泣） Black power gun and target. I wanted to take more pictures but Emma got scared and we had to leave...
銃とターゲット。もっといろいろな角度から写真を撮るつもりが、エマが怖がったのですぐ引き返すことに・・・。そりゃそうよね。だいたい５分おきに銃声がとどろいていました。 Lydia missed swinging in a swing. Look at her smile! ひっさしぶりのブランコめっちゃうれしそう！
Emma missed it too! People in Nile were very friendly and warm-hearted. As soon as they noticed I was trying to take pictures, this grandmother started pushing Emma's swing and I didn't feel uncomfortable about it at all.

エマもブランコ大好き！ナイルの人はヤキマの人よりも一段親しみやすくて私がカメラを構えてるのを見たらすぐにブランコを押してくれました。 This is the family who were nice to us at the swing. What a cute baby girl!

優しい家族の赤ちゃん、かわいい。
Wherever we go, children are interested in playground. Jesse quicly made friends with this boy who shared a Fruit Burst candy with him :)
こんな遠くに来てもやっぱり公園が一番の興味。青いシャツを着た子がキャンディーをくれてジェシーとすぐに仲良しになりました。 We have a chair like this at home. It was $40 but they usually run from $170 to $400.

うちのいすは４千円くらいで買ったけど、こういう椅子はだいたい１万７千から４万円くらい。見た目よりもすわり心地は良し。

The smallest yorkshire terrier I've ever seen. He is a chihuahua mix. Oh, I was ready to take him home :)

Laura bought yummy icecream for everyone. She wanted the Huckleberry flavor but when she asked Emma which one Emma wanted, she replied, "Pink one!!" Sorry, Laura, and thank you :) ローラがアイスクリームを買ってくれました。ほんとはローラがハックルベリー味を食べる予定だったのに、エマが「ピンクがいい！」と・・・。ローラが「女の子はそうやんな～、読みが浅かった」とつぶやいてました＾＾ This grandpa was walking like this with this beautiful 11 y/o macaw on his head. His name is "Cracker." As I tried to pet him, I was warned that he might peck me. He could say "Hello!" １１歳のコンゴウインコ、クラッカー。なでようとしたら、「指食われるで！」と止められました。「ハロー！」って挨拶してたから人懐っこいかと思ったのに。。。 Look at his beautiful long tail! 　

背中もめっちゃきれい！長いしっぽもお見事！（しまった、写真が横のままだった。。。）This is SO Nile! I had never seen a raffle for winning a truck load of gravel. We could use them, though.

これはナイルならでは、でしょう（笑）くじが当たった人には砂利トラック一台分！うち欲しかったなー。

このハーモニカのあとはカントリーミュージック。こういう所にはぴったり合ってました。 Do you see the atomosphere? It's almost like a campground event.

なんだかキャンプのイベントみたい。
I bet they have a very strong tie. People in Nile were so nice that they were quick to smile and always had something to say. It was a very relaxing time.

ナイルの女の人って仲いいだろうなー。みんなすぐにニコッとするし、話しやすい人たちでした。なんだか心が温まる一日でした。
