２日目 2nd Day 図書館 Library

久しぶりに熟睡できて３人とも朝５時半ごろすっきり起きれました。私の家族は家の準備で結構疲れていたので静かにするべく２人を連れて涼しいうちに公園に行ってきました。日本に住んでいたときはこんな早くにお散歩をすることなどなかったので散歩をしている犬の数に驚きました。中にはヤキマで見たこともない６０kg級の超大型犬もいて子供たちにとっては思いがけないスリリングなお散歩になりました。犬を飼っている人が長生きする理由の一つに「散歩中に知らない人とでも話す機会が多い」というのを読んだことがあります。まさにその通り、犬を飼っている人同士はお互いのことをよく知っていたし私たちともよくお話してくださいました。ウソかホントか知りませんが、私の親戚も犬の散歩で知り合って結婚したと聞きましたし、「友達が欲しい」「長生きしたい」もしくは「結婚相手を見つけたい」と思っている方はお試しあれ；）
I guess we were so tired that we slept so deep :) We woke up at 5:30 AM very refreshed! My parents were tired from getting their house ready, so I took the girls to the park. It wasn't hot yet and it was a good time to enjoy outside. I used to be and still am a night owl, so I had never seen a park this early, but there were sooooo many dogs. You wouldn't believe me but we saw a 132-pound dog in our neighborhood!!! It became a very thrilling outing for the girls.
I've heard that people live longer if they have a dog. One of the reasons was that dog walkers tend to have more chances to talk to other dog owners on their walks. It was true as far as I observed this day. Dog owners knew other dog owners well and talked to us, stranges, easily too. Believe it or not, one couple of my relatives got to know each other by walking their dogs and eventually they got married!!! If you'd like to live longer, have new friends, or even find a fiance, please walk your dog :D
２月に来たときは大掃除で閉まってて今回ぜひ行きたかったところは意外かもしれませんが日本の図書館です。ヤキマの図書館の１/３の大きさですが、ヤキマにはない日本語の子供の本がいっぱいあっったので一箱分借りてきました。エマもリディアも本好きでこの日のうちに何時間もかけてほとんど読んでしまいました。昔から宿題や塾や習い事で忙しく本を好んで読んだことがあんまりない私。長文読解を技術的に流し読みし正しい答えを出すというのは飽きるほどしましたが、有名な本でも最初から最後まで読んだことってないですね。分厚めの本で読んで感動してちゃんと覚えているといったら「宿題コンピューター君」、私のおじさんが書いた「ふるさとは、夏」、感動はしなかったけどちゃんと読んだのを覚えているのは読書感想文で読んだ「フック（船長）」しかないですね。なのでそれを取り戻すべく、去年本読み母子でこっちの新聞の一面に載るほど今読書にハマってます。子供の本が主ですが２週間ごとに本を山ほど借りてきて読みあさってます。絵が美しい、文章のスタイルがすっきりしている、内容が面白いの３点をクリアした本は返すまで何度も読みます。５０年、１００年と愛されてきた名作と呼ばれるジャンルはいいですね。感情・語彙が豊かで「やっぱりこんな昔に本を出版できるというのはよほどの才能があったからこそ」と感じられます。私は本選びが初心者なので名作というラベルに頼って本を選んでいますが、もし最近出た本でも「これはすごい」と思う本があったら教えてください。
When we came to Japn in February, the library was closed for cleaning... It is about 1/3 of the Yakima Library, but it is still special to us. We borrowed a boxful of books and read most of them taking hours within this day. Now I love books, but I grew up not reading books. I did read many passages from books in workbooks but not the entire books. My uncle is an established book writer, so I had longing feelings for books, but I was too busy with schooling from childhood. Now I am out of school, and this is what I am supposed to do with kids; reading. We request many books from the library and if they are beautiful, clear in story delivery and interesting, we read them over and over until the due date. We love classics that were loved for 50 to 100+ years. I can usually see why people loved them so much; expressions and vocabularies are abundant. Those authors had to be extremely talented to be able to publish books back then too. I am still a beginner choosing books so I normally look for "classics," but if you know any good books published recently, please let me know!
